Super sweaty weekend

January 4, 2010

First off, I was tagged by the lovely Fit Lizzio for the Beautiful Blogger award! Thanks!!

beautifulbloggeraward

I have to reveal 7 things you may not know about me.

1) I started as a political science major in college and really enjoyed it until I figured out I could major in English.  Major in reading and writing which I loved to do? OK!

2) I have a major addiction to Carmex.  I actually use the Target generic brand because you get 2 for the price of one tube of Carmex.  Must have it with me at all times and will pull over and buy one if I don’t have any! If my lips start feeling unmoisturized for a second I whip it out and put some on.

3) I lived in Kensington in London, England for a semester in college, and now I can no longer give blood because there is the rare chance that Mad Cow Disease could be lingering in my brain.  Seriously!!!

4) My favorite book of all time is Gone With the Wind and I have read it hundreds of times. The first time I read it was in 5th grade.

5) I’m a Gemini and feel that I represent the traits of a Gemini very well:

“Adaptable, versatile, communicative, witty, intellectual, eloquent, youthful, lively, nervous, tense, superficial, inconsistent, cunning and inquisitive”

6) I’m super afraid of sharks, including when I am in a pool!!! HA  I have nightmares about sharks, get the creeps when I see them on tv or read articles about them.  My worst fear is being eaten alive.  That is NOT how I want to go. No being eaten by sharks, alligators, bears, snakes, etc.

7) I will probably die in a road rage incident because I come up with some super creative bad words and like to scream them a lot when I’m in my car. Someone is going to read my lips one day and get me!!

Thanks for tagging me…that was fun!

Onto the sweat!!

I’ve started doing “body part” days for my strength training rather than doing a full body circuit.  Basically I pick part of the body and then CRUSH IT.

After doing upper body on New Year’s Eve, I moved onto lower body on January 2.

WORKOUT

Walked 3 laps on track to warm up

Reverse lunges with a leg lift back holding 10lb dumbbells 3 sets x 15 reps

Sumo squat with 20 lb dumbbell   3 x 15

Lying hamstring curl (machine) 60 lbs 3 x 15

Stiff legged deadlift with 20 lb dumbbells 3 x 15

Side lunge holding 15 lb dumbbells 3 x 15

Glute bridge 3 x 15

Abs:

Toe touch with 10 lb dumbbell 3 x 15

Single leg lift (on back) 3 x 10 each leg

After the strength portion, I continued the crushing by getting on the stepmill for 23 minutes and alternating side walking and regular walking intervals.  Then I hit the treadmill for 20 minutes for super incline intervals, going from zero incline, to 3, to 6, to 9, to 12, to 15, walking a minute at each and then going back down and up again.  Ended with almost 15 minutes of stretching.

WOWZA

TRAINING STATS

Strength portion:

43 minutes, 334 calories, 137 average HR, 175 max HR

Cardio portion:

60 minutes, 500 calories, forgot to record my HR

Yesterday I hit the gym early morning (lots of people there for a Sunday morning!) for a run to shake off the soreness developing in my legs.

TRAINING STATS

.25 mile warmup, .25 mile cooldown, stretching included

4.5 miles

64 minutes

570 calories

147 average

174 max

My legs were still very sore yesterday and a bit this morning.  This is known as DOMS or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness…kicks in a day or two after your workout.

I’m about to slam some more coffee and create a new upper body workout and head to the gym! Gotta a busy week planned.

DO YOU DO BODY PARTS WHEN YOU STRENGTH TRAIN? OR FULL BODY?

No way! I read Gone With the Wind in either 5th or 6th grade as well (Can’t remember, it’s been awhile…). Probably didn’t actually understand it until I read it the next go around.

And if you want to borrow a road rage word, you can use “toolbox”. It’s my new fav curse word of the week. 🙂

Funny I majored in English, too, for the same reasons….. I wish I would have majored in Clinical Pyschology, however…

I have the same restriction on blood donation! GRRRR. I think when there’s a “critical shortage” of blood they should be able to find a way to screen for mad cow without cutting off a huge chunk of eligible donors!

I know!! It is so dumb…especially because I loved giving blood and did it often.

this makes me think of the first 5 minutes into the road trip to NY – with my sweet little babies in the back – and you scream profanities. LOL!!!!!! Funniest moment ever!!!! Love You!

oh yes, prime example of my horrible road rage. even the presence of young and impressionable ears do not stop my screaming!

Sounds like 2010 is off to a good start for you Courtney! I made “Courtney’s Weeknight Pizza Bake” for dinner Saturday night. We loved it. I printed out a few other things from your blog to try in the next few weeks.
With my foot still healing, I’m focusing my energy on eating healthy! Instead of eating the frozen Lean Cuisines or Smart Ones for lunch, I decided to make my own. I spent all day Saturday making frozen meals. I read that freezing all of the cooked ingredients separately and then putting it together in the container is the key to avoiding the frozen block of food. I made 4 different kinds and in the end I had 21 meals in the freezer! I had my first one today… brown rice, ground turkey and salsa. It was just delicious and it doesn’t have all the preservatives and sodium I’ve been eating to “save time”.

Yay, so glad you are enjoying the recipes!!! That is awesome you made your own “lean cuisines” I love doing that too and it is cheaper, better for you, and just as good!!!! Sounds like you are on the right track for keeping your diet in check while you recover from injury.

Holy crap, that is one intense workout! When I strength train (emphasis on the “when”), I usually do full body. If I’m short of time, I usually just try to get as much bang for my buck as possible – push ups, pull ups, walking lunges, planks. I really am going to try to strength train more regularly. Tomorrow I have to get up earrrrlllyyy again to swim and then lift. We’ll see. (:

Hilarious! Your road rage reminded me of when Chris and I were moving out of Corpus Christi, TX up to Little Rock. We had been delayed because of road work and when we finally got going a lady almost ran us off the road. Chris caught up to her, rolled the window down, and yelled over me, “F— you, you fat f—!” He then rolled the window up and looked at me. I started cracking up and said “you really showed her, I’m sure she learned her lesson”. By the end we were both cracking up and really happy to be getting the heck out of Texas!

I really enjoyed reading your list of 7 things. Its always great to learn a little more about

I don’t train body parts. I may do upper or lower body. I just don’t like strength training enough to split it up.
